What Can I Expect?

-Track meets can be confusing. There's a lot going on. We'll try to keep it simple and on schedule. Don't hesitate to ask questions.

- Check-in is at 5:45pm. Each athete will receive a competition number bib, safety pins and a World Athlete t-shirt.

- Athletes can participate in 3 events. They are listed below. You will get a colored dot on the competition number bib for each event your athlete enters.

- From check-in until the 6:15pm, the track is available for warm-ups. One of our coaching staff will lead the warm-ups with the athletes.

There are a few rules

-Please do not bring any food or drinks into the fieldhouse.  Enjoy your goodies in the lobby.

-Our officials will be very liberal with rules in this meet; however, athletes will be cautioned when necessary. On the track, runners should have 2 steps before cutting in front of another runner. Runners cannot interfere with other competitors. Flagrant false starts will be called back and restarted. Officials will emphasize staying still until competitors hear the starter's gun.

-Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Offensive language, bullying, taunting and fighting will result in ejection from the fieldhouse. Disciplinary decisions made by the Meet Director are final. World Athlete has never had an incident at one of our meets. I hope that you can help us keep our record clean.

Parade of World Athletes

- At around 6:15, the Parade of World Athletes will be assembled in the hallway adjacent to the lobby. All athletes will march into the fieldhouse and 1 lap around the track. Athletes are encouraged - but not required to - bring a flag with pole for the parade. Any flag will do. If you don't have one, don't worry. The children will be busy waving to you!

Once the Meet Starts

-Listen to the announcer for your events. The Order of Events is shown below. For each event, there will be 3 calls (announcements). At First Call, the athlete should report to the staging area at the far end of the stands. The staging area may be moved if there is a large crowd. At Second Call, the athlete should be in the staging area. At Final Call, the event is about to begin.

-In the shot put and standing long jump, there will be 2 attempts in each event. Athletes can report at anytime during the event time (usually 30 minutes) to compete.

-There will be 2 relays. The 4-lap relay is for 5-9 years old. Each athlete will run 1 lap. The 8-lap relay is for 10-13 year olds. Each athlete will run 2 laps. Relays have 4 team members. If your child has a group of 4 athletes together to run a relay race, all of them should report to the staging area together. If your child wants to run on a relay, we will match up athletes in the staging area. To get four runners on a relay, we may ask athletes who have already run to join another relay team in need of a runner. We want to make sure that all athletes that want to run a relay are able to.

-If necessary, you can take younger children over to the staging area.

-We plan to have a 40M Dash for Lady Bug athletes under age 5. You will have to complete a entry form if you have a child that wants to participate in the Lady Bug race. If necessary, you can bring your child to the staging area and starting line.

Help Us Make the Meet Enjoyable for Everyone!

-Please tell your child where you are in the stands so that you can be reunited quickly after an event.

-When not competing, your child must be with you. No athletes can be on the track and competition areas if they are not in a called event.

-Please stay off the track during competition and keep young children away, too.

Anything Else?

-Don't forget to bring your cameras! I'll be glad to post your photos on worldathlete.net

Just send them to me after the meet.

-Cheer for the athletes! They love to hear the crowd as they compete.

-Have a good time! Results will be sent to the local media and posted on worldathlete.net usually by the follwoing Thursday night.
